about teater theatron

Theater Theatron is the small theater with the big questions; a socially-oriented non-profit organization with performing arts as its primary focus. In our theater productions, we work with themes that touch on separation, migration, identity, belonging, love, civil courage, and heroism.

We don’t have a permanent stage but see ourselves as a traveling theater group, based in Malmö and Lund. So far, we have produced sixteen performances, five international tours, and several workshops focused on young adults. Our big breakthrough came with the performance Life in Two Pieces, where the actors' own life stories as migrants take center stage. The performance has been played 192 times in southern Sweden and 10 times in the Western Balkans.

Our Artistic Vision

We want to stage performances that create a natural meeting place where the boundary between "us" and "them," both in terms of actors and audience as well as among ordinary people, is blurred, and where there is space for an honest and ongoing conversation. We never want to provide answers, but instead pose questions that inspire reflection and thoughtfulness.

We carry a strong belief that, with the small things, we can influence and contribute to a better world.

North-South European Perspective

Theatron's ambition is to initiate international projects and serve as a window to the Western Balkans region, where we have our origins and a strong network. We aim to be a relevant voice that addresses important reflections on contemporary times, shaped by the conversations between Northern and Southern Europe.

Accessibility

Theatron is committed to ensuring that everyone can experience our performing arts. Since we do not have a permanent stage, we pledge to provide information about accessibility with each new production.

Our most frequent performance venue is Bastionen in Malmö, which is an accessible stage with wheelchair spaces and an HWC toilet in the foyer.

Awards and Nominations

In Sweden, we participated in the Performing Arts Biennale in Malmö in 2015 with The White Crow – Eichmann in Jerusalem by Donald Freed, directed by Tomas Lindström. This is a play we are proud of, and for which actor Zeljko Santrac was nominated for the Thalia Award in 2016.

We were awarded at an international theater festival in Serbia in 2015 for Life in Two Pieces: Tomas Lindström for Best Director, and Suzanna Santrac for Best Actress.
